Jesse Daniel is one of only latest batch of scary talented musicians (see The Coffis Brothers, Taylor Rae, et all) to make his way out of the San Lorenzo Valley. I argue that someone should bottle San Lorenzo Singer/Songwriter Spring Water. There’s some serious coin to be made there. Jesse has circled around the singer/songwriter thing his entire life, and has already made quite the local name simply on the strength of his 2015 EP, “American Unknown.” (If you’re a regular KPIG listener, you’re familiar with his tune off that record, “Don’t Push Your Luck,” which is a pig favorite.)
Jesse spent the last year putting the final touches on his first, full-length record, appropriately title “Jesse Daniel”. It’s very much heartfelt honky tonk by way of Santa Cruz. A few weeks back, Jesse and I sat and talked about what went into the project, who’s influenced his songwriting, and just how proud he was to have his dad actually sit in and take the lead guitar role on some of the record. The kid’s come a long way, and you’ll learn all about it in this really fun chat I had with him. You’ll also hear two acoustic, stripped-down takes on songs from the new record as Jesse plays live.
The big release party for “Jesse Daniel” is Saturday, May 26th at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz. Backed by his new band, he’ll have the record on hand and kick out a way cool night of Santa Cruz Americana. THEN…Jesse and his girlfriend load the RV with his entire band and head east for his first cross-country tour. (If you dig the inside-baseball air of some of these interviews, you’ll learn how a long tour comes together, as you find one or two “anchor gigs,” then slowly fill it in with other dates.)
