Singer/songwriter Paul Thorn was raised the son of a Pentecostal preacher, spent years working in a chair factory, and was even a professional boxer – at one point he was ranked the 29th best middleweight in the world. Let’s just say he has a lot of backstory to draw from as a writer.
In this interview backstage at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, you’ll hear his why he cites both Kris Kristofferson and Dean Martin as influences, how KPIG radio – and in particular, the late Laura Ellen Hopper – gave his career a kickstart, and why you’ll never see Paul on “American Idol”.
