Sherry Austin spent time in Hawaii doing covers in the “steak and winehouse” scene, but it wasn’t until she moved back to her native California, settled in Santa Cruz, and discovered “the mighty KPIG” (and folks like Fred Eaglesmith and Robert Earl Keen) that she became the singer/songwriter folks around here are so fond of. She’s now played regularly on KPIG and is a staple on the local music scene.

In this episode of “Songs and Stories”, Sherry talks about how writing her first few songs eventually grew into her two CDs, “Drive-By Romance” and “Drive On Back”. We also chat about her love of Kate Wolf, whose work will be featured next weekend when Sherry shares the stage with Sharon Allen and Ginny Mitchell in a tribute to “The Songs of Kate Wolf” (9/19 at Mission City Coffee and 9/21 at Don Quixote’s).

This episode includes samples of “How’s the Mustang Running?” from “Drive-By Romance” and “Hallelujah” (featuring Sherry trading vocals with Sharon and Ginny) off “Drive On Back”.
