Multi-instrumentalists Chojo Jacques (The Waybacks, Houston Jones) and Billy Bright (Two High String Band) have just released “Texacali Blues”, a duo CD featuring instrumentals on mandolin, fiddle, mando-stratocaster and electric guitar, as well as a few original tunes with vocals by Chojo and Billy.
In this interview recorded backstage at Don Quixote’s Music Hall, Chojo discusses his family’s musical heritage, Billy talks about how he and Chojo’s collaboration evolved, and they both chat about how music festivals – The Strawberry Music Festival in particular – lend themselves to a musical melting pot and lots of late-night jamming.
Chojo and Billy are doing three local shows to celebrate the new CD. On 1/22, they’ll do a mandolin and fiddle workshop (followed by a concert) at Sylvan Music in Santa Cruz. On 1/23, they’ll be at Mission City Coffee Roasting in Santa Clara, and on 1/24 you can catch them at the Canyon Acoustic Society house concert series in Aromas.
