Yes, “foster”, as in “these pups will soon be available to adopt. Our pal Marky found Eddie, some sort of adorable strain of Jack Russell terrier, wandering the hills out in Prunetucky. Maddie, an Aussie/cattle dog mix, was a stray (yes a stray) in Seaside. They’ve just come back from “fixin'” surgery and are on a quick road to recovery:

The “road to recovery” means these pups are wearing those dorky plastic dog cones for the next week or so, like two drunken uncles staggering around in lampshades well after the party’s over. In the meantime, Eddie and Maddie get to bond with our own wacky dog pack of three (a Lab, a German Shepherd, and a Yorkie who thinks he’s bigger than all the other dogs put together.)

From what we’ve seen – they just spent their first night here last night – Eddie and Maddie both get along great with other dogs. We’re also told that Eddie’s fine with cats. Both pups also took well to sleeping in a crate. If you know of anyone looking to adopt, Maddie and Eddie (and an application link) will be up their web site in a week or so. (And I’ll update this post with the info.)
Editor’s note: Contrary to local and popular (and drastically incorrect) belief, my wife and I do not run an animal fostering organization our of our house. If you knock on our door holding a wayward dog or cat, we will pretend we’re not home. Seriously, we volunteer for Animal Friends Rescue Project, a fine non-profit out of Pacific Grove. It’s a great outfit, and they can always use more help.
