I’m still not sure how I started writing songs about mules (there are three mule tunes to date), but the animal-totem thing seems to be progressing. I have a few dog songs – two are going on my next CD, “Dogspeed” – and I have this uneasy feeling that I’ll be writing songs about cats if I’m not careful. (And if you’re wondering, yes there are two more foster cats at home as we speak.)

Animals are obviously pretty near and dear to me, which is why writing a custom song (titled “Unconditionally”) for Animal Friends Rescue Project was so very cool. I worked with Monica of AFRP to write lyrics that would fit the images she had in mind. And since they just wanted a simple song, I recorded the whole thing at home with Garageband and then dropped in harmony from my pal Breanna Eddy.

Here’s what the finished video looks like:

Note: This current version is a large, uncompressed QuickTime video. If you don’t have QT on your computer, you’ll be prompted to download it. At some point, this video will be available on a smaller, YouTube-like link, and I’ll have it here on the site. (If you want to hear “Unconditionally” as just an audio track, it’s in the player on my Music page.)

And if you’re in the Monterey Bay area, this Saturday, 7/19 is the big Paws Fur a Cause AFRP celebration at Hidden Valley Stage in Carmel. We’re on the bill along with Trusting Lucy, Jonah and the Whalewatchers, and Alisa Fineman and Kimball Hurd. We’ll also be watching the “Unconditionally” video on a bigscreen.
