I had a birthday last weekend. A really cool birthday. With two of my very best pals (one of them being my wife) and another close friend in two. And without giving away too much personal data, let’s just say I’m playing with a full deck this year.

We saw two of my absolute favorite bands (Neko Case and Alabama Shakes) at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. And we snuck in a quick side trip in Oakland to get some B-roll footage for an upcoming video.

Appropriate, since it’s for my song “Where’d the Time Go”, which always seems to work around a birthday. Here’s a quick still from the footage we shot near the Oakland Colosseum. (The song namedrops bands and venues, including Days on the Green, which took place here a billion years ago. We’ll revisit those spots in the final video.)

It was a great birthday. Quality time with people I hold dear. And I felt way better than my OTHER birthday song might indicate:

I can tell this new video will be a scavenger hunt, because it’s happened before: I get a brilliant (hah) idea for content to supplement the story in the song. Then I think “how hard could that be?” And I begin a six-month quest for the right photo or the right image. When I end up with something like the Starlite Drive-In Saturday Night or Now It’s a Taqueria video, though, it *is* pretty cool.

Maybe I’ll finish it in time for my *next* birthday.
