Four (plus) years ago when my father passed (at 92…a long life, but still hard, ya know?) I was thinking about the notion of being not *that* old but already “parent-less”. A cousin of mine, not much younger, who had also lost both his parents said, “You know, this makes us the elders now, right?” It was one of those moments that really hit me, and it seemed worth documenting in a song. Here’s the basic shell of the song, recorded as a guitar/vocal demo when it first came together:
If you can relate, would you be interested in submitting family photos for the music video? It’ll be our next single, and the final track is almost complete. Full-band production with drums and bass, lead guitar, harmony vocal and accordion. It’s a lusher sound than I usually do. Seems appropriate.
For the video, I’m contrasting photos of me and friends/family as kids with our parents, then older as we all became older and were left behind. Some people are also sending photos of their own kids, or their parents with their grandkids. For example:
The span of years and time is evolving into a lovely treatise on aging, and it’s also becoming a nice tribute to family and parents. If you’d like to be included, shoot me an email.
