There must be an animal bulletin board somewhere. My wife and I have been fostering dogs and cats through AFRP for years. But word gets out to the rest of the critter community: “Go to the Gaither’s. They’ll feed you and everything!” (Someone’s talking. Maybe it’s the birds. I hear they tweet now.) Anyway, this explains why we’re raising two orphan pigeons.
Long story – always is – how we ended up with them, but they’re sort of cute…despite the scientific fact that all baby birds – other than chickens or ducks – are sort of hideous until they get their feathers. With any luck, “Ren” and “Stimpy” (of course we named them) will be fully feathered and ready to take to the air in a few weeks.
“Ren” and “Stimpy”
They’re strong enough now where they can feed themselves. And I’ve learned that “eats like a bird” is a myth, unless it means that eating one’s own weight in food every day is considered “eating like a bird”. (There might be a song idea in there. Hey, it worked for “stubborn as a mule.”)
Standard Disclaimer: We do not run an animal rescue organization out of our house. If you ever bring a critter to our door because you think we’ll take it in, we will close the curtains, refuse to answer the bell, and pretend that we’re not home. (Well, not really, but you get the idea.) 😉
